I am a PhD student at the University of Edinburgh's Centre for Language Evolution under the supervision of Prof Simon Kirby and Prof Jennifer Culbertson.

Research

My research focuses on the question of why humans are so strongly inclined to share what is on our minds with others (also called Mitteilungsbedürfnis), and what role this inclination might have played in the evolution of human culture and cognition.

I am also interested in how our Mitteilungsbedürfnis might be linked to our ability to collaborate with others, both in human evolution and ontogeny.

Currently, I am working on a paradigm to empirically test Mitteilungsbedürfnis, and to gather data from more diverse populations.

To learn more about my research, you can have a look at the abstract and slides from my talk at Protolang 9 in 2025.
